Engineering Design Students 'Prepping' For the Trebuchet Contest!

Ms. Tevlin's grade 12 Engineering Design students are getting ready for the final competition of their 2-year program - the Trebuchet contest!

(Note: A trebuchet, is a gravity-powered siege weapon.)

The students are going to design, build and calibrate large trebuchets to lob water-filled balloons at  Ms. Tevlin /staff at lunchtime on Tuesday May 31st.
To get ready for this challenge, they experimented last Friday with some small-scale models and used them to fire small projectiles at a circle of evil minions.  It was a close contest, but the winning team with the most hits was made of Maddy S., Maddy M. and Nikita S. (Girl power!!)

Here you can see five of the seven trebuchets. The winning team is second from the right:

Here you see the catchers for each team. The catchers toss the projectiles back so that they can be fired again. The evil minions are at their feet:

Ishfar is loading his trebuchet with a small sphere of plasticine:

Ishfar is almost ready  to fire. Notice the large black counterweight on the left. This is what propels the projectile:

Caitlyn is scooping up one of her teams projectiles and Nicco is chasing after one of his. They need to return them as quickly as possible to their teammates, so that they can be fired again:
