The grade 11 Engineering
Design students had their final competition at lunch on Friday June 3rd. Their
task was to build a glider, that when released from 12 metres above the gym floor,
would travel the farthest before landing.
This project has fairly
simple construction requirements but requires many test launches to find the
precise way to balance the glider and the precise angle at which it should be
released. Many flew really well, but turned around and headed back. Some crashed
to the ground with a horrible thud. However, the successful ones were beautiful
to watch - almost magical.
The very best glider (see below) was the one flown by Shafayath H., Andrew S and Sasha M.
